Eric, great question! Sorry if I don’t have a lot to tell you
    - The state park has several primitive sites. Call (910) 646-4748 for reservations.
    - The Boys & Girls Homes in town has sites with hookups, but they can only rent to groups who rent their horse arena for a show.
    - There are two campgrounds in Tabor City and one at the Lumber River State Park, all about a half-hour away.
    - Visit the camping page of Columbus County Tourism for more info.

Is there any place to camp near the event?

Jan, Thanks for the note, and I’m sorry it took so long to get back to you.
If you want to be a part of Take the Lake and receive the JAMA completion tokens and be listed as official participants, than each person must complete each event – it’s why we call them Personal Endurance Challenges. Though we can’t stop you, we must strongly discourage people from redesigning this event, as the goal of Take the Lake is to offer people formidable challenges that they will either accept and train for, or leave them for others to achieve.
The only exception is the Silver Swim Relay we introduced last year for Labor Day Swim veterans 55 and older who would otherwise give up swimming altogether.
Good luck, and I look forward to handing your son, husband and brother JAMAs for their achievements!

    Hello,
I have a question about the Walk/Run. My uncle is John McNeill and my son, Cameron, who is planning to do most of the events, had wanted to include my husband and my youngest brother in something they could do together. He had talked to Jim McNeill about possibly having my husband and brother do some of the run and he would finish it [he is a triathlete training for the Battleship Half Marathon coming up]. But we now understand this may not be possible. Could you clarify that for us? Jim says he is not sure and none of the other family members seem to know for sure either. I would appreciate some info when you have time. Thanks so much! Jan Loyd
