What a fun ride! Leisurely pedal 12 miles on the quiet streets of Lake Waccamaw, with a three-mile break as you walk your bicycle along beautiful Lake Waccamaw State Park trails and over the dam.
Begin at the beach near Dale’s Seafood.
- Check-in & Registration: 1:15 – 1:45 p.m.
- Children under age 16 must wear bicycle helmets (State law)
- Always ride with traffic and do not block the traffic lane. Be alert to vehicles and yield to them. Ride single file when necessary.
- Bicycles must not be ridden on the state park trails, as it is dangerous for you, and harmful to the trail. Fine + court costs = $156 (see below)
- Roots on the trail can damage fine tires of expensive touring bicycles, so hard-core riders might consider carrying their bikes through the park.
- Your bike must be with you at all times; shuttling bikes by motor vehicle to avoid pushing them through the park is not permitted.
- It will take the average person about an hour to ride and about an hour to walk, so plan on 2-3 hours, with breaks.
- Get your bike in decent shape, too; OK, you’re not riding cross-country, but breakdowns are no fun.
- Crossing the concrete dam takes some agility; you will need to step down and then back up about a two-foot drop. If you need assistance getting your bicycle across the dam, there should be volunteers there to help you, or please ask another cyclist.
Do not attempt this Personal Endurance Challenge
if you cannot bicycle for one hour, and walk for 30 minutes easily.
Always consult a health professional before embarking on a new exercise regimen.
